Władysław Pluta was born in 1949 in Jeleń. In 1968 he graduated from the Artistic High School in Kraków. In the years 1968–1974 he studied at the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts in the Faculty of Industrial Design. He received his diploma in the studio of Professor Ryszard Otręba. In the 1974 he began teaching professionally in the Department of Visual Communication at his alma mater, where he is now a professor. He works as a graphic designer and a graphic artist. He participates in art exhibitions in Poland and abroad. In addition to many awards in the fields of poster and book design he been also recognized many times for his artistic and pedagogical work.
Major prizes and awards for poster design: Biennial of the Polish Poster in Katowice – Bronze Medal 1977, Grand Prix 1985, Bronze Medal 1987, Gold Medal 1997, Sponsor Award 2001, Gold Medal 2003, Sponsor Award 2009; International Poster Biennale in Warsaw – Two Sponsor Awards 1986; International Exhibition of Graphic Design Zgraf in Zagreb – Prize (tie) 1987; International Biennial of Industrial Design Bio in Ljubljana – Two honours 1988; International Trnava Poster Triennial in Trnava – Master’s Eye Award 1994, Sponsor Award 2003; International Triennial of Stage Poster in Sofia – First Prize 1998; International Socio-Political Poster Biennale in Oświęcim – Second Prize.
