This poster was produced as an ongoing self-initiated design practice. Mono no aware is a Japanese term for the awareness of impermanence, meaning one’s empathy towards things and sensitivity towards ephemera in everyday life. As a Japan born designer practicing in the U.S.A., I am aware of this philosophy rooted into Japanese cultural tradition, but it is often described as a cultural aesthetics that is complex to grasp. This poster is my expression of the ephemeral nature of all things — things that are constantly moving and changing which reminds us that everything in existence is temporary.
